NAMING
OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE NEW LIBRARY
The new library will be located in the
approximate same location as the present facility, and will include
approximately 74,500 square feet. In the first phase, a wing of the library
will be built in the existing adjacent south parking lot. The second phase will
consist of relocating the contents of the present library into the new wing and
then demolish the existing library to make room for the new construction.
The estimated cost is $22,000,000.
Naming
opportunities for the new library are endless. These include assigning names of
individuals, alumni classes, organizations, corporations, etc. to rooms and
collections such as:

Bibliographic Instruction Classrooms
Include two data equipped
multimedia classrooms for library instruction; seats 25 each.

Bibliographic Instruction Lecture and Classroom
Includes one data equipped multimedia classroom for larger classes and
workshops; seats 50.
-
Café
Includes preparation, serving, and vending areas; seats 25.

Childrens’ Room and Curriculum Lab
Houses a collection of 5,000 volumes for children and 2,000 volumes of other
books and guides to support the curriculum and meet the needs of students in
the Department of Education; seats 40.

Computer Commons
Include fifty workstations,
printers, and multimedia capabilities for users.

Conference Room
Includes data equipped features; seats 15.

Copy Center/Multimedia Room
Equipped with state-of-the-art for media production, e.g., color
copiers, printers, scanner, digital camera, laminating machine,
fax services, CD burner, and various software packages.

Reading Rooms
Consists of five, dual access rooms
that are data equipped; seats 20.

South Carolina State University Historical Collection (SCSUHC) Endowment
Fund
Located in the James
E. Clyburn University Transportation Center, a modern, user-friendly,
environmentally controlled, and spacious archives for the university’s
current and future collections.

Spec. C Collection
Comprises
the library’s collection of
materials by and about African-Americans.

Study Rooms
Includes twenty-eight rooms
that are data line equipped, seats six to eight individuals and expandable
to accommodate larger groups; seats more than 175.
