COLLECTION ORGANIZATION UNIT
The Collection Organization, Preparation and Bibliographic Control Unit has the responsibility for administering the acquisition and organization of records management for all library resources. This includes: the purchasing of all monographic materials, serials, and microforms; the cataloging and classification of all monographic materials, serials, federal and state documents; the processing of all monographic materials, serials, federal and state documents and microforms; and the binding of all monographic materials and serials. The Unit also provides manual and computerized interlibrary loan services as a borrower and lender of library materials.
The Unit is presently composed of seven sub-units and five staff that are responsible for effective and efficient administration of their areas. A brief description of each sub-unit is described below.
Administration
Engages in planning, organizing, monitoring, assessing, and evaluating services (i.e., acquisitions, cataloging, serials, interlibrary loan, documents, and bindery) in the Collection Organization Unit in order to achieve a balanced program for the efficient delivery of materials to library users.

Acquisitions
Maintains a systematic procedure for purchasing all monographic materials. Books are ordered from vendors and publishers online using the campus automated acquisition system.

CatalogingIncorporates books into a classified and cataloged collection using the Library of Congress Classification System for books and related materials. The Library of Congress Subject Headings is used for preparing subject entries in the online public access catalog (i.e., Millennium) for books and some federal documents.

Serials
Processes and monitors all current newspaper and periodical subscriptions via vendors and directly to publishers. A computer printout of library holdings provides user access to journal titles. EBSCO, the library’s primary vendor, also provides a printout of all titles arranged alphabetically by the library’s subject classification and alphabetically by the indexing source.

Interlibrary Loan
Provides manual and computerized services via OCLC FirstSearch and WorldCat Resource Sharing bibliographic databases that allow the library to borrow materials from other participating libraries as well as lend materials to participating libraries. Currently, the library has access to 66,452 member libraries via SOLINET and over 60,000 periodical forms UMI (University Microfilm International Article Clearinghouse).

Documents
Processes all federal documents, state documents, ERIC documents, and other documents in microform and paper formats. The library is a partial depository for federal and state documents and receives federal documents from the Government Printing Office and state documents from the State Library. The Superintendent of Documents Classification number is assigned to each federal document and the State Classification System is used for state documents.

Bindery
Processes all books and periodicals needing maintenance or repair services. A commercial vendor, the National Library Bindery Company in Roswell, Georgia, supplies bindery needs.
